France U21 continued their perfect start to their European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign with a 3-0 victory over Austria U21 on Thursday.
The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute courtesy of a stunning strike from Amine Gouiri. Gouiri picked up the ball on the left wing and cut inside before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
France doubled their lead just before the hour mark, with Gouiri again involved. This time, he turned provider as he set up Odsonne Edouard for a simple tap-in.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 82nd minute when Gouiri completed his hat-trick. The Nice forward was quickest to react to a loose ball in the Austria penalty area and made no mistake from close range.
The win takes France top of Group H with nine points from their first three matches. Austria, meanwhile, are bottom of the group with just one point from their first two games.
Conclusion
France U21 are one of the favourites to win the European Under-21 Championship this summer. They have a talented squad and are in impressive form. Austria U21, on the other hand, have a lot of work to do if they want to qualify for the tournament.
